From a Young Girl in Iowa to a Legacy of Care in Hawaiʻi
Long before Wilson Homecare became one of Hawaiʻi’s leading providers of compassionate in-home and residential care, it started with a life-changing moment in the life of a young woman from Newton, Iowa.
After graduating high school, Shelley Wilson joined the Army National Guard and trained as a combat medic. Not long after, she survived a devastating car accident that left her facing months of rehabilitation and uncertainty. Her injuries were extensive, but her determination was stronger. Her recovery journey became the foundation of a calling she could never have predicted.
Her path eventually led her to Oʻahu, where she continued to serve in the Hawaiʻi Army National Guard and worked in various healthcare roles. Then, in January 1996, with little more than resilience, faith, and a desire to help others heal, Shelley founded Wilson Homecare with just one nurse and a dream to make a difference.
From a tiny home office to now serving hundreds of clients across the island, Shelley’s story reminds us that purpose can grow out of life’s most difficult moments — and that caring for others is one of the greatest gifts we can give.
